Welcome to the Website of Sudbury Amateur Boxing Club we are members of ABAE (amateur boxing association of England) which allows our boxers to compete in competitions with other ABAE member clubs of which there are over 750 nationwide and about 55 in the eastern counties area alone.
We Provide opportunity's for people from age 8 to train and compete from age 11 to 40. Under the tutorship of our dedicated coaches and assistants we will provide people with training that will teach them the skills, discipline and fitness levels that are required to compete in the noble art of boxing and to help them in everyday life.
Our Gym was founded in 1958 by Colin Pomroy and has been open ever since. We currently have over 70 members and 26 boxers competing (carded). In our history 5 boxers have reached finals in ABAE competitions with one boxer turning professional and challenging for the British flyweight title.
In 2013 Jasper Boydell reached the semi-finals of the Junior ABA's
2014 Ryan Sumner also reached the semi-finals of the Junior ABA's
in 2015 Jack Wiffen reached the semi-finals of the schoolboys and
in 2016 Jake Sumner reached the Semi-finals of the Youth Championships also in 2016 Sudbury ABC had 2 Eastern Counties Schoolboy Champions from 3 finalists before going out in the quarter finals.
In 2017 Scott Stannard Reached the Semi-Finals of the schoolboys.
In 2018 Jack Wiffen became the first boxer for Sudbury Boxing Club the reach a national Final Losing a close decision in the Juniors. Scott Stannard went out in the quarter finals on a very dubious decision to the eventual winner. Also In 2018 former member Billy 'BOY' Bird picked up the Southern Area Super Welterweight Title in the professional ranks On the back of Jack Wiffen performance in the Junior Championships he has been put on the England Talent program and has also been accepted on the DISE advanced sporting Apprenticeship at Brighton University.
In 2019 Eliie Matter became the first National Champion in the Schoolsgirls and Scott Stannard was runner up (on a split). Scott also became the first sudbury boxer to Represent England at the 3 nations were he won his semi-final against the scottish champion before losing on a split again to the English champion. Both these boxers are now on the England Talent Program due to there progress in the National Schools champonships.

Dominic Winters represented England in the three nations collecting a silver medal
Sudbury Boxing Club also has had successful trips to the Monkstown Box Cup Dublin
